For many people, the climate crisis is something very abstract, with its effects only occurring in the distant future or in faraway regions of the world. However, the climate crisis is already visible here in Germany today. Local forests have been suffering for years from the consequences of the climate crisis, such as persistent drought and extreme weather events. This course aims to highlight the topic of forests in the climate crisis and contribute to raising public awareness of the regional impacts of the climate crisis using the example of forests. The goal is for students to acquire methodological, didactic, and content-related competencies to conduct forest-future tours and thus act as multipliers in society. Instructors from forestry, biology, geography, and environmental sciences accompany the students in various learning settings and formats, which take place in the Botanical Garden of JGU and in the region's forests. In interdisciplinary small groups, students develop a concept for designing a forest tour and deepen their knowledge. After the seminar, tours can continue to be conducted in cooperation with the Rheinhessen Forestry Office.
