The course's general objectives (O1) are to equip students with theoretical and conceptual frameworks and methodological tools that allow them to understand the main contemporary economic and political processes in Africa. Specifically, the course aims to (O2) characterize contemporary economic and political processes in Africa; (O3) observe trends and prospects of African economies; (O4) understand the importance of entrepreneurship for economic development in Africa; (O5) identify the main political actors and moments on the continent; (O6) explain the importance of different institutions in the continent, whether domestic or international. By the end of the course, students should be able to: OA1 – Critically apply concepts to analyze economic and political processes in Africa. OA2 – Identify differentiated frameworks of economic and political trajectories in Africa, with a historical perspective and considering the continent's diversity of paths. OA3 – Identify relevant literature and cases to explain economic and political processes in Africa. OA4 – Integrate the phenomenon of entrepreneurship into the understanding of African economies. OA5 – Explain the implications of resource wealth and associated rents in various social and state domains. OA6 – Characterize the state and political systems in Africa, considering their diversity.
