Marine Conservation and Resource Management
Description
This course asks the 'so what' question of research in Marine Biology; How does it translate into better decisions for sustainable use of marine resources? To do this, it brings together analyses of the need for management of marine biological resources; historical (including traditional) and contemporary approaches to managing and conserving marine environments; modern approaches to quantitative marine protected areas design, including software tools; evaluation of management effectiveness, including stock assessments, recruitment dynamics models, effects of marine protected areas. Prerequisites: 2804ENV Coastal Environments or 2302ENV Marine Animal Diversity or 2303ENV Zoology
