Accounting Theory and Company Accounting
Description
Accounting students, having been exposed to the methodology and practice of accounting, need to understand the broader implications of financial accounting to promote fair and efficient working of capital markets and of the economy. In this course we transform perceptions students may have of accounting as a purely technical subject, teaching instead the practice of accounting as an evolving process. Students learn about the theoretical underpinnings of accounting in which vested interests must be understood, different points of view accommodated, and uncertainty dealt with. The course also covers the acquisition of entities, the preparation of consolidated financial statements for a wholly-controlled subsidiary and application of pertinent accounting standards that apply to companies for share issues, income tax, events after reporting period. The cloud-based accounting software, Spotlight, is integrated into this course.
