Description

This course covers advanced statistical mechanics and topics in condensed matter physics of relevance to current research. It will cover both fundamental and applied skills, including development of advanced theoretical techniques, and introduction to physical problem solving techniques. Contact time of approximately two hours per week will be organised around other commitments from students and staff. Assumed knowledge: Students enrolled in this course are expected to have completed an undergraduate science degree with a physics major (including content covered in 2304NSC Statistical and Solid State II, 2307ESC Analytical and Statistical Mechanics, 3309ESC Condensed Matter Physics and 3301NSC Quantum Physics III). Knowledge of quantum mechanics, elementary statistical physics and elementary condensed-matter physics is assumed.
