Description

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the main concepts, theories and tools for understanding innovation and innovation management. Some of the questions we will answer together include how firms can strategically manage innovation, why some firms are more successful in innovating than others, why established firms often resist adopting a new technology, how innovation affects the competitive dynamics of markets, what are the advantages and disadvantages of entering the market early, what factorsshould a firm consider for deciding how centralized its Research & Development (R&D) activities should be, etc. We will study these issues in the context of large established firms as well as smaller entrepreneurial ventures and across variety of industry settings. The main purpose of the course is to help students improve their ability to think critically and creatively about innovation. No prerequisites are needed to successfully complete the course, though general knowledge about entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity will be helpful.
