The question is introduced during the first session. Together, we develop a series of subquestions during the first two sessions. Students work in groups of two on a subquestion and report on their findings, both in writing (in a Google doc shared with all students and the professor) and in class the week after. Findings are being discussed, comments are provided, and new subquestions are developed, which are again taken up by teams of students. During the weeks, teams vary in composition and exact tasks, so as to learn how to work together in a variety of ways. At the end of the 7 week block, a shared Google doc results that should shed new light on the research question posed at the start of the block. Each student keeps a logbook of his/her contributions to the project. The logbook is shared with the professor. Half way the block, students can request an indication of the grade they are heading to, given their performance so far.
