Description

Address questions of spatial representation with drawing and model-making. Show different methodologies. Encourage back-and-forth between these two media. This is essential in design but also fully relevant in art. 1. Start from an intuition, a sketch, a drawing, or an exquisite corpse to generate a two-dimensional object. 2. Develop this drawing into space as a model. 3. Finalize the work by exploring different scales of use. The exercise initially abstracts from notions of structure, functionality, or reality. Only when moving to 3D as a model does the object confront its own constructive and formal logic. Finally, a new look at the model will allow assigning a scale. Over three days, this allows navigation between drawing and space, imagination and concrete, proportion and scale. Examples will be shown to support the exercise and enable good development of individual proposals. Attendance required for all three days. Work on pieces: – initial drawing – model made – model placement. First submission at module end. Possibility to complete work by submitting the final result later. Collective review during end-of-semester presentations. Commented photos of models. Technical and material means required: classic drawing and cutting materials.
