Description
Contribution to the program: This course covers basic concepts related to material properties and raises awareness of sustainable development through analysis of environmental impacts, essential for engineering. Specific learning outcomes: The student explains various theoretical concepts through definitions, diagrams, demonstrations, or calculations; applies theoretical knowledge to identify the most suitable material for a given situation (density, cost, implementation, environmental impacts, etc.); interprets results from tests and analyses (LCA, etc.) to draw conclusions about material properties; justifies reasoning using relevant principles and laws (atomic structure, chemical bonds, electrochemistry, molecular shape and structure) to solve problems. Content description: The materials chemistry course uses structural chemistry basics to explore properties and uses of engineering materials. Topics include atomic electronic structure, chemical bonds, molecular shape and structure, electrochemistry, and solubility equilibrium. The sustainable materials course raises student awareness of sustainable development and introduces common engineering materials.
