Description

This course surveys the major macroeconomic issues following the COVID-19 pandemic and provides a brief introduction to the practice of economic outlook. It then offers a systematic treatment of national income accounting, unemployment and labor market statistics, and price indices and inflation. The course further addresses economic growth from a long-run perspective, with a formal, mathematical analysis of the Solow growth model. Projected Results: Macroeconomics is the study of the dynamic interrelationships among key macroeconomic variables — such as GDP, inflation, unemployment, and interest rates — that are frequently encountered in the media. The discipline constructs macroeconomic models that systematically represent these interrelationships, thereby identifying the principal driving factors behind macroeconomic dynamics. Building on this understanding, the course aims to develop the analytical capacity to project the future trajectory of macroeconomic indicators, evaluate the effects of past macroeconomic policies, and inform future policy directions.
