Description

Change is a key subject matter in strategic management and organization studies. For one, change is a fundamental postulate in the Strategy field, since there is no need for strategy in an unchanging world. In addition, the continued existence of organizations requires growth a specific type of change process. Finally, strategy implementation and execution requires and/or causes organizational and environmental change. It is, therefore, extremely important for academics and practitioners in the Strategic Management field to understand the main dimensions affecting change processes. This course addresses the development of the Strategic Management field of academic inquiry and initiates discussions on extant theories about Organizational Change and how it relates to strategic management issues. The primary learning objectives include: (i) getting familiar with the rich knowledge base on the strategic management and change topics; (ii) identifying knowledge gaps in the Strategic Management field; (iii) developing research skills; and, (iv) enlarging the participants awareness and possibly his/her understanding about the nature of strategic management and change processes as well as their challenges in complex organizations. Each participant should seek to scrutinize one or more strategic management topics likely related to his/her thesis work.
