Critical Debates in African American Studies (3)

Description

Critical debates have been essential to the production of knowledge in the field of African American Studies. Fundamental debates have laid the foundation for addressing social, cultural, political, and economic inequities and concerns facing people of African descent. Thus, in this course, students will closely examine a critical issue or question in the field to analyze the theoretical, empirical, and rhetorical methodology of contrasting views and develop an effective academic argument on the topic in the context of African American Studies. Emphasis is placed on writing and reading as critical processes. Students will have repeated practice in drafting, revising, citing, and editing, as well as reading closely in various forms, styles, structures, and modes. Prerequisite(s): AAST 100
