Gender and Crime

Description

This course aims to enhance the students to develop an understanding of the concepts of gender, intimacy, and human trafficking in comparative and international perspective. This aim will be attained through three objectives. First, it will introduce the major theoretical approaches in Sociology of gender, intimacy, and human trafficking. Second, it will examine in these approaches through relevant empirical examples, like intimacy between businessmen and sex workers, illicit flirtations and bodies, victimization and violence, human trafficking in Asia and global contexts. Third, it will introduce the major topics of interests pertinent to Sociology, intimacy, and human trafficking. This course will explain critically about the interrelationships between gender and society, and help students to apply the learned knowledge to daily life and work situations. Special emphasis will be placed on the intersection of gender with race, ethnicity and class, and issues in international criminal justice system.
