Architectural Technology in Context

Description

This module builds on the principles covered in year 1 and provides you with an opportunity to consider how technology relates to the context in which architecture is constructed. Knowing: This module introduces you to the architectural technologies and techniques required to create sustainable medium-span and multi-storey buildings. It extends your knowledge of designing for technical clarity while improving the connection between design creativity and technique. Acting: In groups and individually, you will undertake a series of technically focused exercises that will enable you to apply different principles taught throughout the module. Being: Through this module you will further develop your technical mindset in alignment with proposed design strategies considering different technical situations you will face in practice including taking responsibility for the workability and environmental impact of the different design solutions you propose. Through the collaborative activities you will develop confidence to work as part of a team and get an opportunity to build solid arguments to put forward to engineers, consultants, and clients you may be working with in the future. You will continue to reflect on the practical implementation of your design and develop a holistic view of your architectural learning after each practical session.
