Principles of Architectural Technology
Description
This module introduces you to the principles of architectural technology, including how buildings are made, and how they perform. Knowing: The purpose of the module is to introduce you to the technical and environmental principles underpinning architectural design. Throughout the module, you will develop an appreciation for the ways in which building technology informs architecture from concept design through to buildings in use. Acting: In groups, you will be asked to undertake a series of technically focused exercises related to the aforementioned topics that will enable you to apply different principles taught in practical situations. You will actively practice evidence-based decision-making proving if the design solutions you propose work in practice. Being: Through this module you will start to develop your technical mindset considering different environmental, construction and structural situations you will face in practice including taking responsibility for the workability of the different design solutions you propose. Through the collaborative activities, you will develop confidence to work as part of a team and get an opportunity to build solid arguments to put forward to engineers, consultants, and clients you will be working with in the future. You will continue to reflect on the practical implementation of your design and develop a holistic view of your architectural learning after each practical session.
