Academic Writing and Grammar 1001 (AWG 1001) is a -150contact-hour course. AWG 1001 begins with a focus on personal writings in order to develop writing fluency. This fluency is achieved through writing about personal experiences along with reading samples of peers’ writings and a variety of other texts. Grammar is taught in parallel with emphasis on verb and noun phrases. There is a focus on the four basic sentence types in English, paying close attention to accurate and appropriate language use. Students are also introduced to paragraph writing. AWG 1001 teaches writing as a process, using a communicative and a learner-centered approach in an academic environment. To Enroll in AWG 1001, students need an ITP TOEFL score of 420 to 477, or successfully complete PAWG 1001.
