Content, progress and pedagogy of the module: Objectives The objective of this module is: To provide students with knowledge of selected topics and current issues within international relations. To enable students to apply relevant theoretical perspectives to analyze and discuss key elements of international relations in relation to empirical cases and reflect on these on a scientific basis. Content Students will be introduced to selected, current topics within the field of international relations. The module forms the basis for further empirical and theoretical analysis within the field in the project module of the semester. Knowledge: central concepts, theories and academic debates in relation to selected, current topics within the field of international relations key themes and cases within the field of international relations and various approaches to the study of these. Skills: can identify and delimit a problem area based on an empirical and theoretical understanding of selected, current topics within the field of international relations can apply knowledge within the module’s subject areas to select theories that serve the analytical purpose and at the same time remain critical to these theories are able to reflect upon methodological implications of theoretical and empirical choices can apply relevant theories of the field to empirical cases. Competences: can identify, research, describe and analyze complex interdisciplinary questions relating to international relations can reflect upon and analyse selected, current topics within the field of international relations can reflect and argue on the basis of scientific knowledge can communicate research findings to an academic audience in a succinct manner. Type of instruction: The module consists of lectures, discussions, exercises and student contributions. Exams: Name of exam Topical Seminar 2nd Semester Type of exam Written exam The examination for Topical Seminar 2. semester is an internally assessed individual written examination. The examination is a 72-hour take-home assignment comprising issues within the subject area of the module. The assignment paper must not exceed 8 pages.
